The Cottage

The back of the house features an expansive view of the river, where all manner of wildlife may be observed if one knows how to look. Here is a place to enjoy quality time with all the amenities of home as you experience the rare beauty of Maine.

Fort Point Cove Cottage is the kind of place to practice the fine art of human “BE-ing.” Step out on to the side porch with a steaming cup of herbal tea, sink into a comfy rocker, and drink in the afternoon sunshine. On a rainy day, witness the drama of a gathering storm. Catch a glimpse of ospreys flying over the river, while loons, and eiders fish along the shoreline. Await the arrival of gulls, as they feast and fight over clams revealed by the outgoing tide and look for wild turkeys foraging in the edges of the tall grass along the tree line.

Inside, you’ll find all the comforts of home with a surprise or two. Bright and sunny, the house’s passive solar design is also one of its best assets, keeping the house warm even on the coldest of days. The fully equipped kitchen is a joy to prepare meals in. You can easily steam up a bunch of lobsters or a family sized batch of “chowdah.” A granite breakfast bar and dining area offer extra seating for guests. Just beyond the dining room, the living area is equipped with a glass front wood stove to keep things cozy on chilly nights. A selection of Maine movies await your discovery, as does a large flat screen TV. A collection of CD’s offers many genres of music and there is room for dancing if the mood strikes.

Outside on the deck, a grill stands ready to feed a small crowd. Beyond the deck, a fire pit is the perfect place to spend cool nights, and also affords opportunities for stargazing. All-in-all, “Life is Good” here at Fort Point Cove Cottage!
